For the first time since the Pumpkin Spice Latte first debuted 16 years ago, Starbucks is releasing a new pumpkin spice beverage—this time a cold brew-based drink called the Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew.
The new drink features Starbucks Cold Brew, vanilla, and a cold foam made with the brand's pumpkin syrup, according to a press release. Everything gets topped with a dusting of pumpkin spice powder.
Starbucks released cold foam drinks last year in an attempt to offer cold-coffee lovers that same smooth, frothy finish they would find on hot drinks. It's basically several inches of cold, sometimes flavored, caffeinated froth at the top of your drink—this new Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew's foam will be pumpkin spice-flavored.
A Food & Wine writer who had the chance to try the new drink in advance described it as "a less-decadent take on the PSL." It's creamy, smooth, and pumpkin-y without being over-the-top sweet, he wrote.
The drink is hitting menus tomorrow, August 27, along with the traditional PSL. For those who actually like that the PSL is returning nearly a month before fall starts but who aren't excited to drink a steamy beverage in 80-degree weather, the new pumpkin cold brew checks all the boxes.
Also returning to menus tomorrow are various seasonal snacks like the Pumpkin Cream Cheese Muffin, pumpkin scones, and pumpkin madeleines. The popular Salted Caramel Mocha will also be available for the autumnal season.
All of these items will be in stores throughout the U.S. and Canada starting tomorrow.
