Rachael Ray is stepping up in a big way to help during the coronavirus pandemic.
Through her two charities, the Rachael Ray Foundation and Yum-O!, she's donating $4 million dollars to several partner organizations that are providing food and shelter to humans and animals in need during this time.
"We want to highlight all of the good works that are going on from grassroots to huge programs nationwide so that people can get involved," Rach said on Morning Joe.
Half of the $4 million will go to organizations that are focused on feeding and caring for people around the world during the pandemic. The organizations receiving donations are: Feeding America, Share Our Strength, World Central Kitchen, The National Restaurant Association, City Harvest, Hunger Free America, Wholesome Wave and ReThink Food.
The other half will support animal welfare, with donations going to the North Shore Animal League, Best Friends Animal Society, Austin Pets Alive, Big Dog Ranch, San Antonio Pets Alive and Lost Our Home Rescue.
Rach's long-standing pet food partner, Nutrish, has also pledged to donate 4 million meals to animal shelters and pet parents in need through GreaterGood.org. These pet food donations not only help reduce the chance of a pet being relinquished to a shelter but also support families who have recently adopted or fostered a pet and may be facing financial strain during the coronavirus pandemic.
As has always been the case, Rach doesn't ask people for money for her charities. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of her various products, including her cookware and pet food, goes to support those charities.
"John and I don't have human children," she said on Morning Joe. "This is how we give back to the next generation."
