I'm not exaggerating when I say I’m probably the biggest Hi-Chew super-fan on the planet (just ask anyone who has worked with me!). They're my favorite candy and, in my opinion, easily the best fruit candy out there.
So when I heard Hi-Chew was hosting a voting competition to determine which of 20 new fruit flavors should be released nationwide, I felt it was my duty to taste all 20 and help you vote for the best one.
That's right! Hi-Chew's 2020 Fantasy Flavor Games is based on your votes. Each week, you can vote for the flavor you think sounds best, and the flavors with the most votes will continue on until only one remains.
The 20 possible flavors are:
- White Peach
- Tangerine & Orange
- Blood Orange
- Muscat White Grape
- Blue Hawaii
- Strawberry Lemonade
- Lemon Mousse
- Fruit Tart
- Black Cherry
- Passion Fruit
- La France
- Red Apple & Strawberry
None of the flavors are released yet, but I was lucky enough to get a taste of each. I have to say: All 20 were delicious. My tastebuds were tantalized the entire time. No matter which flavor wins, you'll probably like it. That said, I did have a few favorites.
The White Peach flavor was surprisingly authentic. Normally I don't like peach-flavored products because they taste artificial, but this one tasted so much like a real white peach I could almost feel the fur.
The Yuzu flavor packed in tons of citrusy sweetness that left me searching for real yuzu fruit at the grocery store. The Plum flavor was dead-on—I don't know how, but it tasted juicy. And Tangerine & Orange was dangerously addictive blend of sweet and tangy that I could easily eat a whole bag of.
But my No. 1 vote, hands down, goes to Blue Hawaii, a flavor inspired by the popular tropical cocktail. Maybe that's because I'm still commiserating the beach vacation I had to cancel earlier this year, but the flavor perfectly combined pineapple and citrus for a sweet and sour candy that made me feel like I was drinking a frozen cocktail by the ocean. It's the closest I'll come to a tropical vacation any time soon. I want this flavor to win so I can buy 10 bags, sit on my patio, turn on some beachy tunes, and transport my mind oceanside.
The first week of voting ends this Friday, September 4. From there, the top 16 flavors will go head-to-head, and contestants will continue to be narrowed down through September 29. The winning flavor will be announced September 30.
So go vote for your favorites (Blue Hawaii), and may the best candy win (Blue Hawaii)!
