Spiced Italian Fritters with Chocolate Sauce

If you're feeding a crowd, make these fritters in batches, serve them in small paper bags and let guests shake them with the spiced sugar. Yum!

Spiced Italian Fritters with Chocolate Sauce

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. ground aniseed (optional)
  • 8 oz. pizza dough, divided into 16 pieces
  • Canola oil
  • 4 oz. bittersweet chocolate
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream

Preparation

In bowl, mix sugar and spices. Stretch dough pieces until see-through in spots. In saucepan, heat 2 inches oil over medium-high. Fry fritters until golden, 3 minutes. Drain on paper towels; sprinkle with sugar mixture. In saucepan, melt chocolate in cream over medium for dipping.
