Overnight Waffles with Mixed-Berry Compote
Scratch-made waffles with frozen berries make for an easy but delicious holiday breakfast.

Ingredients
- 3 cups flour
- 1 1/2 cups milk, at room temperature
- 3 large eggs, beaten
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 cup butter, melted
- 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
- 1 1/2 tsp. pure vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 envelope (1/4 oz.) active dry yeast
- 1 bag (12 oz.) frozen mixed berries
Preparation
In large bowl, stir first 9 ingredients just until blended. Cover with plastic wrap; let stand for 30 minutes. Chill batter overnight. Preheat waffle iron. In medium saucepan, heat berries over medium, breaking them up slightly with spoon, until heated through, 5 to 10 minutes. Cover berries to keep warm. Cook waffles in waffle iron according to manufacturer’s instructions, 3 to 4 minutes per batch. Top waffles with berries.
