Five-Spice Beef Stir-Fry
Sweet, spicy, and savory Chinese five-spice powder gives this one-dish dinner robust flavor.
Ingredients
- 1 lb. beef top round, thinly sliced against grain into strips and cut crosswise in half
- 3 tbsp. canola oil
- 2 cups snow peas
- 1 red bell pepper, sliced into strips
- 2 scallions, chopped
- 1 tbsp. finely chopped peeled fresh ginger
- 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
- 1/2 tsp. Chinese five-spice powder
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tbsp. rice vinegar
- 2 tsp. cornstarch, dissolved in 1 tbsp. water
- Cooked rice, for serving
Preparation
In wok or large skillet, stir-fry beef in oil over high heat until browned, 2 minutes. Add peas, bell pepper, scallions, ginger, garlic, and spice powder; stir-fry for 3 minutes. Add soy sauce, vinegar, and cornstarch; stir until saucy, about 1 minute. Serve over rice.
