Each year tens of thousands of music- and film-lovers gather in Austin for the South by Southwest festival. And Rachael and her musician husband, John Cusimano, have been right there with them for years. They enjoyed the vibe so much that in 2008 they hosted their own event, Feedback, booking bands like Scissors for Lefty and the Raveonettes, serving up irresistible food like Cornbread-Topped Bourbon BBQ Chicken, and opening the gates to a few hundred guests—for free. "I thought people would be confused to find me hosting indie acts, as I'm often thought of as a cook, not a music aficionado, but I've been an indie film and rock fan for decades," Rachael says. That one-day bash has since grown into a three-day event, on several stages, with performances by some very big names in music (oh, hey, Train!), and more delicious food. Still all for free. Recently, more than 8,000 fans lined up starting at 5 a.m. at Stubb's, the famous Austin BBQ joint, to get in on the action. This year marks the 10th Feedback party, and the celebration promises to be the best yet.

Rach and John like to fill the bill with new talent: Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros played Feedback in 2009, before their hit “Home” dropped. They returned in 2015 (left) and everyone knew their name—and their songs.
