Rachael Ray: Hi, Mel. I have to tell you, I'm a Dancing with the Stars junkie! You were amazing and you look phenomenal. It seems like you're cooking for somebody important--you've got steaks, crab and whole sides of salmon. Are you having a party?
Melanie Brown: My husband and I have three kids between us and they all like different foods. So, our fridge is all about keeping everybody happy.
RR: So you've got to keep it simple if you're making multiple meals. Do you have one dish everyone enjoys?
MB: My kids love it when I make sea bass and quinoa, so I guess that's my specialty. But I'm not a great cook. Let's put it this way--I don't burn anything. My husband is the chef of the family, and he's really great at the grill.
RR: My husband, too. I think all men are born with some gene where they enjoy standing by the hot barbecue. They seem to like smelling like beef jerky. So, I see a lot of store-bought, processed garlic in your fridge.
MB: I'm lazy, Rachael. If I had more time, I would buy cloves and peel them myself. The jarred stuff doesn't taste as good as fresh garlic, that's for sure.
RR: Here's a trick I use: Break up a few heads of garlic, put the cloves between two metal bowls placed rim to rim and shake the heck out of it. The peels will fall right off.
MB: That's great! I'm going to try that.
RR: Now, even with that healthy-looking fridge, I bet you have some guilty-pleasure foods.
MB: I do! I love pizza. I'll indulge in a chocolate bar or a tuna melt, too. It depends on my cravings.
RR: Sometimes it's salty and sometimes it's sweet. How do you keep so fit?
MB: Well, I've always enjoyed working out. I do a boot-camp-style routine that's really fun. People always ask me what I do to stay in shape, so now I'm sharing it with everyone through my workout DVD.
RR: My problem is that I do a few sit-ups or push-ups and I'm bored. A boot camp might be good for me. So, I bet you've met many jaw-droppers already, but if you could have anybody over for a dinner party, who would you invite?
MB: Well, of course, my family. I'd also love to have a dinner with Barack Obama, Marilyn Monroe and Prince. That would be quite an interesting night!
