Apple-Shaped Gals
If you're rounded at the waist and your upper body is larger than your lower half then you're an apple gal!
Look for: A style that hits you mid-waist, around your bellybutton or slightly below it. "Despite what many women think, a higher waistline would actually accentuate -- not conceal -- your belly," Gretta says. Go for a dark wash, which is visually slimming, and thick denim that holds you in to prevent a muffin top.
Avoid: Pockets, pleats or other details around the waist. Same goes for funky rinses that create lines or splotching near your hips. "All those things draw attention to your middle. You want to look as smooth and sleek as possible."

Celery Stalk-Shaped Gals
If you're straight up and down with square hips and long legs, you're celery stalk-shaped!
Look for: A superlong inseam (at least 34 inches). If you want the illusion of curves, try high-wasted jeans. "Call attention to your hips and rear end -- and go for embellishments," Gretta says. Pleats, welded pockets or belt loops all create width and volume, so you look feminine, not boyish. You can even play around with harem styles: full legs that taper at the ankles.
Avoid: Super-low-rise jeans. Though you can wear a moderate low-rise, going to far will make you look boxy. And stay away from plain, pocketless fronts; they can look masculine.

Sugar Snap Pea-Shaped Gals
If you're 5'4" or shorter, with any size frame, you're sugar snap pea-shaped!
Look for: A cut that's long and lean. The key is to extend your legs with something slim. "If you're small all over, with slim legs, you can wear a skinny jean that hits at the ankle, even though you won't be adding length," Gretta says. Embellishments are fine as long as they're not oversize (and therefore out of proportion with your body). And a tip: When trying on jeans, buy the pair that's slightly snug. All denim gives a bit over time, and petites in particular want jeans that fit closely.
Avoid: Anything even remotely baggy or wide-legged. "Those jeans will wear you, instead of the other way around," Gretta says. "You'll look shapeless."

Pear-Shaped Gals
If you're full through the hips, thighs and tush, and a little narrower above the waist, you're pear-shaped!
Look for: Slightly stretchy material that will expand at your hips without gaping on top. "This is the toughest shape to shop for. You have to fit the largest part of your body -- usually the hips -- then possibly have a tailor take in the waist," Gretta says. "Don't be afraid to veer away from the classic straight-leg shape, but go with a dark wash to play down the width."
Avoid: Noticeably tapered legs. A full leg creates visual balance: Think of drawing a line straight down from the widest point of your hip. You should also skip styles with small -- or no -- back pockets. "The more open space, the bigger your tush will look."
