How to Score a Good Hotel Room

Hot tips from Kate Jerkens, director of sales at the Beverly Hills hotel Maison 140.
score a hot hotel room

STEP 1 Do your homework. Before calling the reservation line, call the front desk and ask for room suggestions.

STEP 2 Arrive early -- and be flexible. If you don't like the room you're given, the hotel may have other options later; if you're staying for several days, ask to upgrade after the first night -- a better room might become available.

STEP 3 Be demanding. Don't be afraid to tell the staff when you don’t like your room. Those who speak up get the most attention.
