1. Start by serving a signature drink of the evening.
2. Use cloth napkins (colorful, mismatched kitchen towels will do).
3. Put a basket of warm bread on the table with unsalted butter.
4. Garnish soups and salads with fresh herbs, sliced scallions or croutons.
5. Compose each plate in the kitchen. Keep it colorful with plenty of bright veggies.
6. And don't forget to treat yourself. Save room for dessert.
