You might know a thing or two about absinthe and Midori, but what about Chartreuse?
The all-natural French liqueur is made from a combination of 130 herbs, including cinnamon, mace, lemon balm, peppermint, thyme, and many others.
The spirit is made only by Carthusian monks in Voiron, France. (Fun fact: Only two monks at a time know the 400-year-old recipe!) And it was named after the monks’ Grande Chartreuse monastery, located in the —you guessed it— Chartreuse Mountains.
So what does it taste like? Many say it's very sweet but becomes spicy and pungent as you drink it.
So serve it on the rocks as an after-dinner drink. Or add a splash to your G & T on March 17—or any other day of the year, really.
