Ice packs can weigh you down, and with back-to-school season coming up, it feels like a good time to try a new lunchbox trick.

Heavy ice packs? There's gotta be a better way. In our testing, small ice packs weighed three times more than frozen sponges!

Here's a trick we love: To keep a lunch box cold without lugging around heavy ice packs, all you need is a new, clean sponge and a resealable plastic sandwich bag.

Here's what you do:

1. Get the sponge wet and give it a gentle squeeze. It should be saturated but not dripping.

2. Seal the sponge in the bag and freeze it overnight. (If you have a large lunch box, use multiple sponges.)

3. In the morning, pop it in a lunch bag and you're good to go!

We found that the sponge kept food cool until lunchtime. Stock up now so you'll be ready for all those back-to-school lunches next month (ugh).
