Mango pits are, well, the pits! The fruit’s oblong shape paired with its slippery flesh makes removing the pit with a knife awkward at best. That’s why I love the OXO Good Grips Mango Splitter ($14, oxo.com). I’m not a single-use-gadget guy (too much clutter!), but I'm telling you, this uni-tasker is totally worth it.
Here's how to use it:
- Start by cutting a small slice from the bottom of the mango, then stand the fruit upright.
- Push the pitter from the top through the center of the mango, separating the pit from the two fleshy cheeks.
- Remove the skin with a paring knife and cut as desired. Pretty sweet!
