Supermarket Showdown: Homemade vs. Pre-Made Guacamole
In honor of Cinco de Mayo, we conducted an avocado-mash match. The winner was *claro*.
Option #1: Store-Bought Guacamole
In many premade cases, preservatives like citric acid help maintain that bright-green hue (and can add an unsavory tang). What's more, the options we tried had a smooth consistency, a dealbreaker for chunky-dip lovers (a.k.a. everyone).
Prep: 0 minutes; Price: 47¢ for 2 tbsp.
Option #2: Homemade Guacamole
Homemade mash wins, hands down. It's cheap and easy, and you can whip up a version that's just right for you, Goldilocks. Purists may opt for just a squeeze of lime and a pinch of salt; heat seekers can add all the chiles.
Prep: 5 minutes; Price: 28¢ per 2 tbsp.
