Ready, set, shake! Put 3 or 4 garlic cloves, or an entire head of garlic broken into 4 pieces, in a 12-oz. jar. Close the lid and shake vigorously for 1 minute to separate the cloves from their papery outer skins. Empty the skins from the jar and shake again until you’re down to the skinless cloves, 2 to 4 minutes.
