Instant Expert!: How to Season a Skillet
Just bought a new skillet? Watch our how-to video to learn how to season it to perfection!
Everyone loves a cast-iron skillet. But everyone also always asks me how do I season it. You need to season it to make it completely non-stick and it's easy, I'm gonna show you how. First, get your oven hot. Pre-heat it to about 400 to 500 degrees. Then you have to wash this thing, wash it in hot soapy water, dry it with a towel, take a little bit of vegetable oil and put it on a paper towel, and rub the inside and rub the outside. Once that's all oiled, you're gonna bake it in the oven empty. That's right, nothing in it. And it's gonna go for about an hour and then you're gonna turn off the oven and leave it in there to cool. Again, for about an hour. When you take it out of the oven always use a pot-holder just to be safe. Now look at it, a beautiful non-stick cast-iron skillet seasoned and ready to go.
