Upcycling: Decorative Throw Pillows
Green decorating expert Danny Seo creates recycled crafts in his book Upcycling. Here, he makes decorative throw pillows with colored safety pins.
-Hey, I'm Danny Seo, author of the book Upcycling. And today, I'm gonna show you how to transform your boring Johann throw pillows into exciting brand new ones in one really easy simple step. Now, over here, I've got a finished one and this is a beautiful purple Y. And this pillow right here, you may have it right now in your family room, in your basement. You've loved it at one point, but you're kind of bored with it now. Well, when you upcycle it, you've got an orange hue right here. And when I'm down to this last one, you'll see the word that I'm trying to spell. And it couldn't be any easier. So, you went ahead to your local Michael store and picked up some safety pins and I call them jewelry store pins because they come in a variety of really beautiful colors like these gold pins right here. These typical silver ones they call sterling silver, but I'm really excited about these jewel-toned pins that you could find right here. I call them gemstones. And this project is so easy. All you have to do is take your safety pin and you just attach it to the back of the pillow, some kind of a blank surface that you have. And you spell out the letter that you're trying to spell. So, I'm gonna work on this one right here. And you go around creating just the perimeter of the letter adding one pin after the other, mixing up different sizes if you want to. There's no right or wrong right here. And if you look back, you think, "Okay, that line is just a little bit crooked, it's not quite straight", it's as simple as taking the pin off, repositioning it and just fixing it as you go. And when you're done with it, you spell out Yum. How fun is that? So easy. So beautiful. Upcycle your pillows today.
