Bring the Restaurant Atmosphere to Your Home
-I'm Amy Scott and this is Stacy Adimando, deputy lifestyle editor for Everyday with Rachael Ray magazine, and we are here today to show you some tips on how to bring that restaurant vive home to your own dinner table. How to make it the dining experience a special occasion, right Stacy? -Right. I mean we're all cooking at home a lot these days, but when you're having guest over, you really wanna up the ante a little bit, make a little bit more special. So, there's some easy touches that we sort of stole from our restaurant dining experiences and you can incorporate at home. -Starting with linens, right? -Right. -Well, how easy is throwing a tablecloth over the table that makes a huge impact. So, we just pick something in a pretty color that sort of compliment the table. I opted for cloth napkins instead of paper napkins. Small change big impact. And then we just picked up some store bought flowers. Put them in their own vase and just keep it low in the table so that guest can still see over it when they're talking each other. -That's important. That can be annoying when you're like, "Ah, hello!" -Let's just give a nice touch. -Okay great and as far as late come as the hostess, you don't wanna be jumping up and down all the time. So, what are some tips in order to be prepared? -Right. Well, if you're really going for the restaurant experience, you wanna serve a couple of courses, which could seem intimidating. In this case, I think preparing ahead is gonna be your easiest spot and so it's so easy to do that with a simple salad. Basically, we just mix together some greens, a couple of vegetable garnishes and then you can even serve the dressing up the table. My guest dressed it themselves. It's just kind of a big thing right now anyway. People like to-- -Yeah. -dressing on the side. -Everyone's can make the food. -Yeah. Exactly. -Yeah. -If you don't wanna do that, another really easy thing even easier to use store bough soup in a little shot glasses-- glass-shot glasses and it's like a little amuse bouche before the meal starts. -Amuse bouche. -Yeah. Fancy. It's the word. -I noticed also you've got bread on the table, which I think is very important when you go to restaurants with your family. -All the little touches really add up so we slice some bread, put in on a pretty plate and then you're serving it with a little bit of extra virgin oil and guests can spoon it on themselves. Don't get whatever-- It's a little bit of a treat. We also just set out a pretty store bought peppermill. Just something a little more fancy than you might be using when you cook, but you know guests really enjoy that and then just a little bit of coarse sea salt in ramekin or small bowl. -It does look so much more fancy. -Pretty simple-- Yeah, really. -Yeah. And I understand you have a tip about warming the plates for the entrees, correct? -Yes. This is big in restaurant kitchens, all the chefs do this before they put their entrees out and basically, you know, you probably have the oven on the ready since you've been cooking for your guest. Just take a stack of plates out of 200-degree oven topping them in there for a few minutes and you'll have warm plates when you serve and this will also help by you a little extra time, you know, -Alright. -if it's taking you a minute to get the plates out, the food will come out warm guaranteed so-- -It's a great idea. -Yeah. -It's a good tip. -Yeah. -Alright, so we've had our-- our salads, our amuse bouche entrée, and then about desserts? -You definitely want to go out with a bang so sometimes store bought desserts I think are under appreciated and they're really simple to make beautiful though. Here we just took a couple of different kinds of cookies and biscotti. Lay them all on this beautiful tiered tray and I mean who would wanna eat that. That's a perfect ending to a meal. -That is a way better than throwing a box on the table, right? -Yes, I agree. -So when your guests have all gone also make sure you sneak in a much needed break for yourself, the busy hostess, right? -Uh huh. If you wanna stop your world, have vanilla caramel latte from Maxwell House International Café. -That sounds like my favorite part of the meal right there. -Yes, sounds pretty good. -Absolutely.
