Secrets to Being a Great Host
-Hi! I am [unk], here with Stacey Adimando, deputy lifestyle editor for Everyday with Rachael Ray magazine. And today, we are here to share some tips on how to make your next party, your best party. Now Stacey, it's time for holiday entertaining, can you give us some tips on how to impress our guests. -Sure, I think, you know, being a great hostess is really just about making some easy upgrades to things that you already do or already have at home. So,[unk] we're starting with the lighting which obviously gets the party going. -Lighting is key. -Yeah, it just gives the party a good glow, -gets everybody in the mood. So, you just upgraded some simple, clear-glass hurricanes. We put white pillar candles in the middle and then to give them a little pop of color. We just cover them in this cellophane paper which we cut to fit, and then just secure it in the back with a little clear piece of tape. So, I mean-- -[unk] - If you don't have that at home. You can use clear glass [unk], anything and this will last forever. -It looks so professional. Honestly, that is really cool. Alright, moving along, we've got a-- these look like cocktail glasses, you know- -Right! Exactly, We just -open up our juice cabinet and check out a couple of glasses with the same size. What we did is we filled up the bottom with some dried beans which, who doesn't have that in their pantry. If you don't have that, you could use candies, or jellybeans, [unk]- -Cranberries? -Cranberries, anything to customize your party. Then, we just clip some supermarket flowers and, you know, cut them to fit. And you can set these up in a row, down the center of your table or anywhere around the party. -You could put them in the bathroom. That's beautiful! -Yeah! that would be great. -I love that, it's simple and classic. -Yeah, Exactly! -Alright! -moving on. Everyone, these advertisers have their cocktail party, and these looks like a healthy array. What do we have here? -[unk] just use some store-bought dips to make a really fun dip-station that guests can actually customize bite-by-bite. [unk] makes this great wine of veggie dips, so we pour them into some bowls here and then just put a couple of fun veggies, some [unk] and tomatoes for dipping. And then each time your guest takes a bite, they can just use a little spoon to put some toppings. We did chopped herbs, some nuts and some chopped scallions. So, each bite can be different. -Okay! well now we've got the -Food taken care of every cocktail party. Of course, it wouldn't be cocktail party without the cocktail. So- -Exactly. -moving right along. I see you decorated your glassware. -Right, well I'll tell you things to do something a little special for your guests, customize something about the party just for them. In this case, there are lot of ways to mark wine glasses, but we chose to do ours with some store-bought alphabet lettering. Basically, you can pick these up in the craft store. And just for each guests, you pop one on from their wineglass and they can keep track all night of which glass is theirs. -Unless of course, Barbara and -Bill both show up at the same party- -Yeah. In this case, you can switch to first and last initials, you know,-- -Okay! That works, or maybe a symbol for me. -Goes for the symbol for the night. -That's great! And as for what to put in the glasses, we have champagne which always makes a party [unk]. -Definitely, you know, it's not hard to make a fun bar. Most people just stick to bottles of wine or bottles of champagne. In this case, our advise is just to open up a couple in advance, you know, you don't want guests having to ask permission to open the next bottle or. -No. -You don't wanna have to go back to the fridge every time something runs dry. -So, just open a couple in advance and anything that's sipped over, you can use [unk] in the wine. -Ooh! good idea. But, often necessary. -It is a win-win. -Yes, it is a win-win. And for juice, just keep it open and put it in a pitcher. -Right, Yeah, just take it out of the container and pour them in a nice glass pitcher, or a water bottle and you can even mark the outside with a dry-erase marker. -That's fantastic.
