by pressing it with your fingers because you do not want the paint to leak under it so you have a very clean silhouette. Now, the next step that you need is some spray paint . And there's a whole variety of paints right now. And I happened to love these full finish metallic paints . They come in wonderful silver colors. I've got a great gold right here. But when you spray them with these metallic paints , it almost looks like you've dipped these plates in molten gold. It's such a great product. But if you want to do different colors to match the décor of your home, you can also choose spray paints like this wonderful matte purple right here, blues, greens or whatever your heart desires. So you're going to spray paint about two coats or three coats of paint on here. Let it dry completely. Peel off the sticker. And look what you've got, a brand new silhouette plate. Feel [inaudible] -
Weekend Two: DIY Cabinet How-tos
we're ready to start painting . So, with the door ..... bit just to give the paint something to adhere to ..... Now, we're ready to paint . I like to use an angled ..... important if you're painting your cabinets because ..... based really keep the paint adhering to the cabinets
Before you actually start painting the cabinets, you wanna take them off the hinges. So, here I've got a door that was taken off the hinges, all the hardware was removed, and now we're ready to start painting . So, with the door that's got finished on it already, you wanna scuff it out a little bit just to give the paint something to adhere to. Once you've got the door all scuffed up and it's got a little bit of texture so it will really hold the paint , you want to keep an extra. I like to keep a little spare brush, clean and just use it as a dust brush. You wanna dust off all of the dust from your scuffing. Once you've got it brushed off, there's still a little bit of dust that lingers and that's gonna give your paint texture so you want it all out. So, I like to keep a little hand towel or tack cloth, make it a little damp and just brush off any leftover dust, so you got a nice, clean cabinet to start. Now, we're ready to paint . I like to use an angled brush because it gets right into the crevices and gets all the detail. And here, I've got the primer already. This is an oil-based primer, this is really important if you're painting your cabinets because the oil-based really keep the paint adhering to the cabinets with the wear and tear that the kitchen gets. You wanna make sure your primer is really nice and strong. So, just dip it right in there, and then you wanna just paint the detail first. This is really important, so, you just get right in there. You wanna make sure you get the detail first because when you roll on top of it, you're gonna actually give the entire door a roller finish whereas if you did the paint with the brush last, you're gonna notice that some parts are very smooth and then other parts have a little bit of texture too. Now, we've got all of our detail painted, so, it's time to roll, and I like to use a very small nap, this is a half inch nap, you can even get smaller. The bigger the nap, the more texture you're gonna get to your paint but also, the easier it's gonna be to get into hard-to-reach places. So if you got a textured wall, more nap, smooth finish, less nap. And you really don't wanna put too, too much paint on it but you wanna prime your brand new roller so that there's paint all the way around. Then once you've got it rolled, you may find you need to go back and do some touching up like along the sides, so you just go ahead and do that. So, I think that's about it for the primer for this one. So, now it needs to dry. I'd say give it about an hour, an hour and a half. With an oil-based primer, it's gonna take a little bit longer to dry but it'll be worth it because it will really adhere to that paint and give you the wear and tear you need in a kitchen. So, I'm gonna leave this to dry for about an -
