BEST CLASSIC

Rold Gold Classic Style Tiny Twist Pretzels

Rold Gold is one of the top-selling brands in the U.S. for a reason. Tasters raved about these "good old-fashioned pretzels" that have the right amount of "saltiness and crunch, plus a hint of malty sweetness." One taster couldn't believe that such a "dark, complex" flavor could be rolled into an ittybitty pretzel. They're perfect for dipping in tangy mustard -- but just as delicious undressed. ($2.89 for 16 ounces, at grocery stores)

BEST DECADENT

FLIPZ White Fudge Covered Pretzels

These babies are amazing -- inside and out. Bathed in white fudge that tastes a whole lot like vanilla cream frosting, they have the "perfect ratio of chocolate to pretzel." Read: They're not drowning in a thick coating, so they stay crunchy and are never chewy. ($2.29 for 5 ounces, at grocery stores)

Prices and other details were accurate when we published this article in October 2009.

BEST FLAVORED

Snyder's of Hanover Hot Buffalo Wing Pretzel Pieces

"Whoa! Did I just eat a chicken wing or a pretzel?" asked one panelist when she tasted these smoky, spicy sourdoughs. Pair them with blue cheese, celery and cold beer for a "wingtastic" tasting experience. Best part: no sticky fingers! ($2.99 for 10 ounces, at grocery stores)

BEST HEALTHY

Newman's Own Organics Hi-Protein Pretzels

Yellow pea flour is probably the last ingredient you'd expect to find in a pretzel, but this addition brings the protein tally of these crunchy, organic snacks to 5 grams per serving -- making them the ideal post-workout snack. Barley malt and yeast, combined with a touch of sugar, create a "deep, yet slightly sweet" flavor that trounced the healthy (cardboardlike) competition. ($3.49 for 7 ounces, at grocery stores)
