From Every Day with Rachael Ray
August-September 2006

MAKES 4 DRINKS

16 fresh basil leaves 4 tablespoons simple syrup* 10 ounces vodka Juice of 1 lemon 8 ice cubes

In a cocktail shaker, muddle 8 of the basil leaves with 2 tablespoons of the simple syrup. Add 5 ounces of the vodka, half of the lemon juice and 4 ice cubes and shake well. Strain into 2 martini glasses and repeat with the remaining ingredients.

*Simple Syrup
Simple syrup is a fast way to sweet drinks: Just dissolve granulated sugar in an equal amount of boiling water, then chill. Make a few cups at a time and store for up to a month in the fridge. It's great for cocktails, iced tea, iced coffee and lemonade.
