Bacon, Mushroom & Smoked Mozzarella Strata

Ingredients

  • 10 eggs
  • 3 cups whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 16 cups (1 lb.) cubed sourdough bread
  • 1 pound bacon, chopped and cooked until crispy
  • 1 pound mushrooms, sliced and cooked
  • 1 1/2 cups grated smoked mozzarella, plus 1 cup for topping
  • 4 scallions, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh thyme

Preparation

In a large bowl, whisk eggs, milk, salt and pepper. Stir in cubed sourdough bread, bacon, mushrooms, 1 1/2 cups mozzarella, scallions and fresh thyme. Transfer to a buttered 3-qt. baking dish; top with 1 cup mozzarella. Cover; refrigerate overnight. Bake at 350 degrees until just set, about 1 hour.
