UPSIDE Large opening for adding mix-ins; requires minimal freezer space; cord storage; automatic safety shutoff.
DOWNSIDE Canister must be chilled before use; flimsy paddle.

3) Lello Gelato 4070

UPSIDE Makes ice cream that can be eaten right after churning; audible alert; digital timer; separate on/off switches for the built-in freezer and paddle.
DOWNSIDE Expensive; heavy; bulky; strong fumes during first few uses; small viewing window and opening for adding mix-ins.

4) Donvier 1-Quart Ice Cream Maker

UPSIDE Quiet; makes soft-serve ice cream that can be eaten right after churning; ice cream can be stored in the canister; doesn't require electricity.
DOWNSIDE Canister must be chilled before use; hand-cranking requires more attention and effort than electric models; no opening for adding mix-ins.

5) Aroma 4-quart Traditional Ice Cream Maker

UPSIDE Good for large families; ice cream can be stored in the canister; on/off switch; machine can be hand-cranked.
DOWNSIDE Canister must be chilled before use; bulky; difficult to assemble; requires rock salt and crushed ice; flimsy crank.
