... GRAVY OUT OF A TABLECLOTH

Scrape off excess gravy. Pour rubbing alcohol on the stain and pat dry with a clean cloth. Scrub with a little laundry detergent diluted with water. Get back to your seat and keep eating!

... CHOCOLATE OUT OF YOUR OUTFIT

Pat the spot with an ice cube wrapped in a towel to harden the chocolate. Scrape away the chocolate with a butter knife. Rinse the stain from the back; wash with detergent and rinse again.

... EGGNOG OUT OF YOUR SWEATER

Dab away excess eggnog. Soak the stain in cold water -- hot water will cook it into the fabric. Rub with a paste of laundry soap and ammonia. Wash in warm water; pour yourself another glass.

... MUSTARD OUT OF YOUR T-SHIRT

With a dull knife, scrape off what you can. Run cold water on the stain from the back of the fabric. (In a pinch, rub ice on it from behind until water drips through.) Soak the stain with a mixture of one part rubbing alcohol and three parts liquid dish or hand soap. After 10 minutes, rinse with hot water. If the stain is still there, treat it again before laundering.

... GRASS STAINS OUT OF YOUR CLOTHES

Before the grass stain dries and sets into your clothing, wet the fabric with a little bit of warm water. Using a sponge or cotton ball, dab the green splotches lightly with rubbing alcohol and let dry. Once dry, dampen the fabric again with cold water, and work liquid detergent into whatever?s left of the stain. Rinse with water.

...TOOTHPASTE STAINS OUT OF YOUR SHIRT

Act quickly, especially if you're using a whitening toothpaste, which may bleach clothes. Dip a napkin in warm water, then use it to scrape off any excess globs of toothpaste. Mix a teaspoon of clear dishwashing liquid with a cup of water, then rub on the stain with a clean rag. Rinse.

...RED WINE OUT OF YOUR CARPET

Blot the stain
Douse it with club soda, cold water or white wine (the antidote to red)
, and repeat until the spot disappears.
