How to Seed a Pomegranate

Handling a whole pomegranate for the first time can be intimidating, but you don't have to be superhuman to tackle this superfood. One strong hand can liberate the fruit's succulent seeds in seconds.

Step 1

Score the pomegranate lengthwise into quarters.

Step 2

Stick the point of the knife into the crown of the pomegranate and give it a twist to break the fruit in half, then in quarters.

Step 3
pomegranate 3

Hold each quarter, seed side down, between your thumb and forefinger over a bowl and thwack the rind with the back of a large spoon. The seeds will fall into the bowl.
