From Every Day with Rachael Ray
February 2008

The Grammy winner gives us an inside look at a day in the record biz.

6:20 a.m.  When I'm recording an album, I'm often in the studio from 8 at night until 6 or 7 in the morning. We play some beats, write lyrics, then I get in the booth. When you're in that zone, time just slips away.

10:15 a.m.  Usually, I'll be a trouper and get the day started. But sometimes after a night in the studio, I'll sleep until late afternoon and make a bowl of cereal at 4:30.

10:45 a.m.  First things first. I like to start with a healthy breakfast—today it's eggs and turkey bacon. I like the taste of coffee, but I don't have to have it every day.

11:40 a.m.  I hit the gym for about 30 minutes of cardio on the bike or treadmill.

12:30 p.m.  My afternoons vary, but they're always busy. I go to photo shoots—like a shoot for my new album, The Declaration, or meetings to choose video directors.

2 p.m.  Lunchtime. I eat a turkey wrap, a bunch of fruit and a salad. I keep it nice and light, so it doesn't slow me down. I stay away from soda. I'm a fruit-punch girl.

I'm an absolute candy fanatic. Lately I've been on gummy LifeSavers, Sour Patch kids, Twix, Raisinets, Jolly Ranchers—I could go through three or four bags a day!

5 p.m.  I like to mix fresh juices. Someone gave me a really cool blender and I've started blending up everything—pineapple, watermelon, grapes, apples. I put my concoctions in empty water jugs.

7:30 p.m.  I love cooking. I cook salmon, spaghetti, fried chicken, stewed chicken—my food has a lot of flavor, and I don't OD on salt or eat red meat or pork. Dinner tonight is baked chicken with rice and beans. My diet is pretty good, I must say!
