The new collaboration between Rach’s charity, Yum-O! and FoodCorps, an organization that’s the culinary version of the Peace Corps, is creating quite the buzz. It sends young folks out for the yearlong stints around the country to help educate kids about healthy eating. Why is that so important? Because one in four children in the U.S. struggles with hunger and one in three is obese — largely because their families don’t have easy access to healthy food. Let’s change that, people! FoodCorps has a hands-on approach: Its service members teach kids about gardening (in the garden!) and cooking (in the kitchen!). Here’s how Yum-O! played a part in this important mission — and how you can, too.
1. Yum-O! and FoodCorps
Yum-O! donated funds to help promote FoodCorps’ growth and expansion across the U.S. Next Year, they’ll add two more locations to their current list of 15, as well as 55 more service members, for a total of 180.
2. What’s Next?
This fall, Yum-O! is helping launch an award program with FoodCorps. The money will go to the community served by one stellar service member. Stay tuned!
3. Get Involved
It’s easy! You can support FoodCorps by donating online or even volunteering alongside service members. To find out how you can get involved, go to foodcorps.org.
