All in the Family

  Rachael's Notebook

When I hear the word "holiday", the next word that comes to mind is always "family."

Family--now that's a word that always gets a reaction, huh? Say that word to strangers and they'll either grin from ear to ear or scowl and go limp. But whether we're the Waltons or the Bunkers, at the end of the day in most families, everybody ends up at the same dinner table to toast.

Always remember that families who eat together, stay together!

In my family, we celebrate Thanksgiving at least five times! Because of everyone's crazy schedules, John and I will be sharing one with my sister and her family; another with my mother, brother and dad; another with the in-laws; and one with our friend Adam Perry Lang and his family.

These days, American families aren't just about genetics--we're stitched together from circles of close friends, neighbors and coworkers. The ties that bind our new American families can be just as strong as those we were born into.

No matter what size or shape your family is, we wish you the warmest of holidays!
