For a nonalcoholic sangria, use grape juice instead of wine, and peach nectar instead of schnapps.
In a medium bowl, stir together peaches, cherries and sugar. Let stand until thawed, about 10 minutes. In a medium pot, bring wine, anise if desired and the fruit mixture to a simmer over medium-high heat. Remove from the heat and stir in schnapps; discard the star anise, if used. Serve warm in mugs.
